End of Spring Term

TKD at Dartmouth has finished for the year. Some highlights:

Julia and SK have tested for their blue stripe (5th gup).
Joanne and Elmer have tested for green belt (6th gup).

Yesterday, a bunch of us went to Bradford for a sparring seminar taught by Master White, the president of the Blue Wave TKD association. We did free-kicking drills, paddle drills, and free sparring.

The TKD club is inactive for the summer. If you have questions about how to get involved in TKD during the summer, please contact tkd@dartmouth.edu

SK will be graduating in 2 weeks. He's been involved in TKD for about three years. We wish him the best of luck.

Hi All. Spring term is beginning, which means TKD is beginning too. Time to get psyched for a new term of kicking things!

Class begins on Friday, and our regular classes with the Masters will begin Tuesday 4/1. Although attendance on Fridays is strongly recommended for returning students, only Tues/Thurs classes will count for PE credit.

As always, email the club with any questions.

Winter Camp recap

This weekend was Winter Camp, which was a pretty amazing experience. Friday was the Black Belt testing, in which Ms. Fearon '05 tested for her 3rd dan black belt. Here's a clip of one of her sparring matches. Go Lisa!

The presence of all the black belts was awe-inspiring.

Saturday's schedule consisted of morning physical training and poomse and kibon practices and the afternoon consisted of sparring drills (lower ranks practiced with black belts).

Sunday morning's physical training was led by Grandmaster Lee, a 9th dan from Korea. Then, all ranks had a chance to choose two seminars from board breaking, bow staff, and sword techniques.

Definitely looking forward to next year!

Coming up: Testing on Thursday 3/6 for this term's white belts. Friday 3/7- end of term dinner. Trip to Hanover Gym (across from Co-op supermarket) for Grandmaster Lee's class next Tuesday 3/11.

Dartmouth In Korea

Our own Mr. Emerson took at 2 week trip to Korea with a handful of other Blue Wave folks. They participated in an intensive training program to help make them better instructors and better TKDers. Marty took these Dartmouth themed pictures while he was there.

That jacket is pretty cool huh? If you don't recognize it, its one of the jackets we ordered last year.

High Dan Testing Schedule

Next Saturday in the West gym Dartmouth is hosting a once in a very long time event. There will be a high Dan testing for 4,5 and 6th Dans. This will be a treat to see, even if you aren't currently practicing TKD, or if you just want to bring a friend to see some cool kickings. The other neat thing is that Grandmaster Lee will be running a seminar. You can start of the new term right by learning TKD from an famous old Korean man with a heavy accent! After the testing there will be dinner at EBA's. If enough people are interested I'll organize a Dartmouth TKD table. The schedule is:
  • Setup and Check In: 11:30am - 12:00pm in the West Gym

  • Seminar One: 12:15 - 2:00

    • ALL Ranks, Yellow Belt - Black Belt

    • 10 or older, or with Instructors permission

  • Seminar Two: 2:15- 3:15

    • Black Belts Only

  • High Dan Testing: 3:30 - 5:30

  • Dinner: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

    • Dinner will be at EBA's in Downtown Hanover. It is open Menu with selections between $5 and $15.

If you just want to see the testing then just show up around 3:30 and watch. If you want to attend Grandmaster Lee's seminar then you need to email the club and let me know. Also, the seminar costs $10.
